When a table of 2 became free next to us we shuffled along the bench - to get away from the door. I’m not keen on losing sight of my credit card for 1.5 hours and certainly wouldn’t recommend it given what happened later. Too much bad service from too many people to think this was a one off. Personally, I would never come back to this place unless the cover and drink minimum were waived. On top of that, when I finally received the bill (and my credit card, which was taken from me after placing my first of two mandatory drink orders) the suggested tips were calculated on top of the cover and drinks. We ended up ordering the “meat and cheese board”, which was over $25 and contained a few slices of meat and some small squares of cheese. This was a little unsettling considering we were charged $25 EACH as a cover as well as a 2 drink minimum. We opened the menu to find that nothing was less than $18 (except for a can of beer). We asked if we could be seated at one of the 5 empty tables next to us, but she said that they were reserved for a large party. The hostess sat us at a very small high top table that was less than 2 ft away from the table next to us. I reserved a table for 2 and arrived 10 minutes before my reservation time. And, let me be clear, the only reason I’m giving them 3 instead of 2 is because I don’t want this to reflect poorly on the musicians. I truly cannot understand how anyone can give this place higher than a 3 star review. So, get a reservation, & why not doll up, put on that tie and coat, slip on that cool dress, cause if they push back the tables and open the dance floor (as they did during our visit) you wanna look like the cats meow while dancing the night away. The folks who assisted us included: Alvin, Maitre D Tre', Waitress Jose, Bartender Extraordinaire Jack, Django Master and others, so Golden Kudo's to all. THE critical element pushing Django to reach new levels lies in the soul of the People of Django. Personally, suggest getting a table for the entire experience (the pre fixe option, $45 for three courses, is easy peasy) while the bar area offers a more lively cocktail, mingle & jazz motif. Wow, those seeking a top of line jazz, cocktails and dining experience, then Django is a pot of gold in NYC! The Django is the best combination jazz experience in NYC, not a jazz "shhh" church, not a jazz "scolding ~ you don't you know this song" institution, nor a supper club with jazz in the background - the Django rises to new multi elevations by melding an ethos of a 1920's jazz club vibe, outstanding real jazz played by fine musicians, mixed with spot on cocktails and accompanied by dam solid food.
